Asbestos-removal firm guilty of training fraud

An asbestos-removal firm in Tacoma recently admitted that they have been conducting bogus training of workers for several years, the Seattle Times reported on May 3.

Reports said the Emergency Management Training (EMT) pleaded guilty on May 2 in the Superior Court for falsifying workers’ asbestos-removal training since 2010. Instead of conducting asbestos-removal training to workers that should last up to eight hours, EMT reportedly just let them watch a movie. Unscrupulous acts like forging documents were committed by EMT so their workers could avoid being checked by the state or even bid on asbestos extraction jobs at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Though EMT pleaded guilty to conducting fake training, state officials said it is too early to conclude if the firm heightened the risk of exposing workers to asbestos.

Workers who were poorly-trained in removing asbestos may suffer from serious health problems if they unknowingly inhaled the hazardous mineral. The lawyers at Williams Kherkher, L.L.P. may represent victims of asbestos exposure. Immediately call 800-781-3955 for help, if you think you or a loved one have been exposed to asbestos due to other’s negligence.
