Veterans shun asbestos lawsuit law

Veterans in Wisconsin are pushing Governor Scott Walker to get rid of a proposed asbestos lawsuit bill, the Chippewa Herald reported on March 18. In a news conference, veterans and family members of people who died as a result of asbestos exposure expressed concerns that the law will slow down court procedures and victims may be denied due  justice.

Under the proposed asbestos bill, people filing an asbestos lawsuit would have to disclose the number of companies they will be filing the lawsuit against. The senate recently approved the bill, and the Assembly is waiting to make its decision.

Though Governor Walker has not commented if he will approve the bill or not, his spokesperson said the bill will promote transparency in the handling of asbestos-related lawsuits.

When asbestos is inhaled, serious health problems that are usually fatal may affect an innocent person. If you think you have been exposed to this dangerous mineral, call 800-781-3955 to learn more about the adverse effects of asbestos and how a lawyer may be able to help you file a claim.
