Family awarded $2.86 in mesothelioma lawsuit

The family of an asbestos victim has been awarded $2.86 million after their loved died of mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer largely associated with exposure to asbestos fibers.  This is the largest asbestos-related award in over a decade against one defendant in the state of Delaware.

The 62-year-old victim had worked at Crane Plumbing Fixtures Factory for nearly 40 years when he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in August 2010. He died in February 2011, just a few months after his diagnosis.

The lawsuit alleged that he was exposed to asbestos fibers while using talc powder to dust ceramic plumbing fixtures. The asbestos fibers in the talc powder came from a New York mine that was owned and operated by RT Vanderbilt Company, Inc. The jury determined that the RT Vanderbilt Company failed to provide the proper safety warning on the talc powder, making it responsible for the man’s death.
