Three types of Mesothelioma cancer

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is primarily caused by exposure to asbestos particles. In the U.S., there are 3,000 mesothelioma cases diagnosed each year and men are diagnosed four times more often than women.

The average age of a mesthelioma patient is 62 because the cancer has a long latency period. Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that can affect three different areas of the body. The most common type of mesothelioma cancer is plueral mesothelioma. It accounts for nearly 75 percent of all cases and occurs when the cancer develops in the lining of the lung.

The second most common type is seen in 20 percent of cases is called peritoneal mesothelioma. This occurs when the cancer develops in the lining of the abdominal cavity. The most rare type of mesothelioma is only seen in 5 percent of cases and is called pericardial mesothelioma and this occurs when the cancer is in the heart’s lining.

Many victims of mesothelioma were exposed during their career when asbestos was still legal. If this has happened to you or someone you love, contact the pleural Mesothelioma lawyers of Williams Hart today by calling 800-781-3955 today.
