Joplin tornado may have left behind environmental concerns

The residents of Joplin, Mo. may still be seeing affects of the tornado that ripped through their town and destroyed their homes and businesses.

Some of the older buildings that were damaged contained asbestos and were not a hazard before the storm, but couldĀ  be now that the material has been disturbed. Once disturbed, asbestos can become airborne and can be ingested by people nearby. Once ingested, the toxic material can stay in the lungs and cause cancer or asbestos-related diseases.

Many experts have stated that the cleanup process of natural disasters can be the most common way to be exposed to the material. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sent a team to the area and they have not found any serious pollution issues at this time.

If you or a loved one were exposed to asbestos and developed mesothelioma as a result of this, contact the mesothelioma lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-781-3955.
