People have raised concerns of asbestos exposure over an abandoned building in East Austin that is about to be torn down, according to an article published on myfoxaustin.com on February 18.
Montopolis Neighborhood Association-El Concilio president Danny Perez expressed worry that a lot of people, including children, will inhale asbestos fibers if the building at the corner of Fairway Street and Montopolis Drive is demolished. Perez said they are aware that the building contained asbestos.
The property is set to be demolished soon by A&R Demolition, who contracted M and Jo Abatement to dispose of the asbestos. A representative supervising M and Jo said workers only wear dust masks. The abatement will also perform tests to ensure asbestos levels are not hazardous.
Sadly, not everyone takes the proper precautions to ensure that people are not unduly exposed to asbestos. If you think your health problems were caused by being exposed to asbestos fibers due to the negligence of another party, call 800-781-3955 today to get the help you need.
