A team of geologists from the University of Nevada recently discovered pre-existing asbestos in Boulder City going to Las Vegas Valley, a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal said on Monday, December 25.
Geology professor Brenda Buck said it was the first time that the natural asbestos fibers were found in Southern Nevada and they want to study the risks brought by the naturally occurring mineral. University of Hawaii researchers have already initiated a test to find out how the fibers in the affected area can cause cancer and are planning to assess if there are already cases of people suffering from mesothelioma. Another geologist, Rodney Metcalf stressed that the issue in the discovery of asbestos is its potential to harm, not its classification.
Unfortunately, a lot of people in America unknowingly are exposed to asbestos fibers, causing them to develop serious and life-threatening health problems. If you think you or a loved one was exposed to this harmful material due to someone else’s negligence, call 800-781-3955, and find out how a lawyer might be able to help.
