Reports of numerous college dormitories having asbestos in England came out recently after The Guardian investigated the situation. The Guardian reported that a number of academic institutions confessed of not informing students about asbestos present in floors and ceiling panels so as not to cause concern.
England is said to have around 17,000 college students who are threatened with the presence of asbestos in dormitories. This has caused alarm to The Association of Teachers and Lecturers, who has worked very hard for the removal of asbestos in all college institutions.
U.S. schools are also seeing this same problem, particularly those built before 1970 when asbestos was commonly used in construction materials.
