Asbestos removal has begun at the law library at the Northampton County Courthouse after officials with the Environmental Protection Agency were told about the findings almost a year ago.
This is the second time asbestos has been found in this space, which has lead investigators to question how the carcinogen returned to the area. Officials have stated that workers will be working 10 hour shifts in order to remove all of the asbestos from reference materials.
Multiple other locations have also undergone asbestos cleanup processes, including the basement of the courthouse which will now be reopened shortly. The cost of the entire cleanup process is unknown at this time because the project costs have gone up due to delays.
