Asbestos was discovered by workers at the new Cedar Rapids library site and this will most likely postpone the opening.
According to on-site workers, the asbestos was found underneath the building that was being removed to make room for the library. The building used to be school and the officials believe that the debris is leftover from this original structure.
The additional materials needed for the removal will be close to $1.3 million. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be $49.5 million, but this should not go much higher because city officials make sure to add in additional costs when creating a budget. The library is set to open in 2013.
