This year, the National Organization for Rare Disorders has scheduled their fourth annual Rare Disease Day for February 29. The slogan for this year’s Rare Disease Day is “Rare but Strong Together.”
Mesothelioma, like about 7,000 other conditions, is considered a rare disease. About 30 million Americans suffer from diseases that are considered to be rare. Every year, approximately 3,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with mesothelioma, and the cancer currently affects around 200,000 people across the country.
The day is intended to promote awareness of rare diseases like mesothelioma. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will have a similar event on March 1 called Rare Disease Patient Advocacy Day.
Mesothelioma is a very serious type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos and can appear in people decades after they are exposed. If you or someone you know has developed mesothelioma, contact the Mesothelioma lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955 to learn more about your rights to compensation.
