A judge in Mississippi has thrown out the largest asbestos lawsuit in history after it was found that the man’s parents were involved lawsuits against some of the same companies with similar claims.
The plaintiff claimed that he developed asbestosis as a result of a working with a dirt compound that was made by Union Carbide Corporation and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. As a result of the disease, the man requires the use of an oxygen tank 24 hours a day.
In May, the man was awarded $322 million in damages, but it was later found that his father has filed two similar suits, one that is still pending. His mother and father also already settled a case with UCC with similar claims.
