The city of Beloit, Wis. will be paying $270,000 in order to settle allegations about an asbestos issue.
After a 6-1 approval vote by the city, they agreed to pay the amount to settle the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by a man in 2009 after claiming that the city did not discuss asbestos problems in a building that he purchased.
The building was used as a public works office by the city before it was purchased by the man in 1998. When purchased, the city gave a letter to the man that said that all asbestos was cleared from the building, but the man later found asbestos in the building in 2008. He filed the lawsuit shortly after.
