A Colorado hotel and construction company were recently charged with improper removal of asbestos products by the Colorado Attorney General. The companies are accused of exposing hotel guests and employees to harmful asbestos fibers during the removal.
The indictment states that the hotel and construction company violated both the Air Quality Control Act and Clean Air Act in the renovations that occurred at the Frisco Holiday Inn in October 2009.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment had to stop the renovations midway through because officials learned that the companies had not received adequate permitting from the state to perform the renovations. Afterwards, hotel managers sent hotel staff to clean up left over debris while guests were still staying at the hotel, potentially further exposing them to asbestos.
