A San Francisco appellate court upheld a mesothelioma case verdict which awarded a patient and her husband $20 million in damages. The woman was exposed to the cancer-causing asbestos fibers in a joint compound manufactured by Georgia Pacific. According to the case, the company knew about the dangers of asbestos and produced the joint compound despite the potential negative health effects to consumers.
The woman was an entertainer for most of her life, and went on many USO tours with her family. But it was her side job remodeling houses with her husband for thirty years which brought her into contact with the joint compound containing the dangerous asbestos. Her husband suffered a serious stroke soon after she was diagnosed with cancer, and her chemotherapy treatment made it difficult for her to care for him.
