According to a recently released report, workers who were chipping away and removing waterproofing materials containing asbestos on the roof of Roosevelt High School in Nassau, NY, failed to propperly wet down the material, causing a cloud of dangerous dust to errupt into the air. The New York Department of Labor has issued five citations to the New Jersey-area contractor which mishandled the removal process. Teachers and students at the high school reportedly complained about a noxious dust that fell down on them. The school district claimed it was Styrofoam being removed.
