A panel of pathologists has come up with a set of guidelines for diagnosing mesothelioma. The project started because there are so many pathologists who see only rare cases of mesothelioma. In fact, some may only see one case every two to three years, making it difficult for them to stay up to date with mesothelioma literature.
16 pathologists from the International Mesothelioma Interest Group made up the panel. They came up with a guideline showing the usefulness of several different antibodies. However, the guidelines will not recommend a specific type or number of antibody to use because there is no ideal diagnostic test for mesothelioma.
