An Illinois man was awarded $2 million by a jury in his mesothelioma case against Bondex International Inc. According to the lawsuit, the man worked as a handyman for several years until his retirement in 1992. In his time working, he used asbestos laden pipe and joint compounds that caused him to develop mesothelioma.
The materials he used either did not come with warnings about asbestos or had inadequate warnings. This caused his exposure to the dangerous substance. The company argued that their products did not contain enough asbestos to necessitate a warning, but a jury ruled in the man's favor, ordering the company to pay him $1.5 million in damages and $500,000 to his wife.
