In Rockford, Michigan, a funeral home has been cited for violations of asbestos code. The Pederson Funeral Home purchased a house in April for a potential expansion of the business. That house was then demolished to make way for that expansion. Since then, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has fined them.
Because the house contained asbestos, MIOSHA fined the funeral home $1,500. The contractors used on the project will be fined an even larger sum for their part in the demolition. In addition, the city has been cited for allowing fire fighters to train in the building after the funeral home deeded it over. However, no fire fighters were exposed to asbestos.
