At the State University of New York at New Paltz, the company hired to remove asbestos from Shango dormitory and College Hall has been fired. The New Jersey based Milestone Environmental was given the asbestos abatement contract by the school, but has been stopped in its efforts twice for removal violations.
Because the company has had to stop abatement twice, the project has fallen behind schedule. In addition, SUNY has dismissed Milestone Environmental because of the company's violations. This has put the project even farther behind schedule. Because of this, abatement of the buildings may not be complete by the time classes start in the fall.
