Deaths caused by mesothelioma are on the rise according to a recent federal study. The study also shows that 26 states have mesothelioma death rates that surpass the national average of 13.8 deaths per million people every year. That shows that half the states in the nation shoulder the majority of asbestos and mesothelioma issues.
A large problem with mesothelioma is the latency period. Often, patients do not get diagnosed with mesothelioma until 20 to 50 years after being exposed to asbestos. This is why mesothelioma continues to be a growing problem even though asbestos use was almost completely banned in the early 1970s.
