Dan Desler of Eugene, Oregon has been arrested for unlawful air pollution as well as reckless endangerment and supplying false information to Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality. He is in jail on $100,000 bail. While environmental violations are generally not criminally charged, some are considered bad enough to be referred to the police.
Asbestos has been found in a former lumber yard in Sweet Home. The land is now owned by Desler and is supposed to be used for a new subdivision. To that end, Desler contracted out the demolition of several buildings on his land. Those buildings contained asbestos, unbeknownst to the contractors. Because the asbestos exposure is on such a large scale, Desler is facing charges.
