North Tonawanda Middle School in Tonawanda, New York will recieve asbestos abatement over the next two years. The abatement project will begin on May 18 before school lets out for the summer. However, no abatement work will be performed while students are in the building. Instead, contractors will work over night and will test the air before allowing the school to reopen each morning.
The computer lab and the music room in the school will be sealed off to allow abatement to occur before school lets out. Once the students are dismissed for the summer, the rest of the school will under go abatement. The project is expected to continue through September and will recommence next summer. In the interim of the two year project, the school will be reopened, but precautions will be taken to ensure that students are not exposed to asbestos.
