The Jury received the WR Grace trial on Wednesday after closing arguments by the prosecution and defense. The trial began on February 19 in the US District Court in Missoula, Montana. The jury will now determine whether WR Grace and three of its former executives illegally hid information about the dangers of asbestos from residents of Libby, Montana where they operated a vermiculite mine.
The mine was open from 1963 until 1990, exposing thousands of residents to asbestos over time. So far 2,000 cases of illness and another 225 deaths have been blamed on the asbestos that came from the WR Grace mine. With deliberations started, the end of this high profile case is nearing its end. This could mean relief for thousands of residents or for the former executives on trial.
