The new headquarters for the US Olympic Committee will be in an existing building in Colorado Springs that is currently undergoing renovations. However, there have been some complications with the asbestos abatement in the building, delaying the renovations by at least two months. A spokesman for the Olympic Committee has said that the delays should not cause any serious problems as long as the building is finished by December.
The problems that have arisen have caused the asbestos abatement to take longer than expected in part because the containment was not up to standards. In addition to the substandard containment of asbestos, a demolition worker disturbed more asbestos in one incident. Because of these and other factors, the project had to be reevaluated before receiving a new permit.
