The roof of Building A of the Center for Business and Industry in Watertown, New York is leaking and has been found to contain asbestos. In 1997, the building underwent a $1.3 million renovation project that should have removed the roof and all the asbestos inside it. However, it has recently come to light that the roof was simply patched and did not receive any asbestos abatement.
The new replacement estimation is $800,000. However, this does not include the cost of asbestos abatement for the older materials in the current roof. Asbestos abatement is generally costly, but a better estimate will not be available until an asbestos survey can be conducted on the roof.
