Asbestos has recently been found in a limestone quarry in Montana City. Because of this, city officials have scheduled a meeting for Wednesday at 6:30pm. The meeting will be open to the public and will be held at the gymnasium of Montana City School. The meeting will discuss the asbestos found at Ash Grove Cement Co's quarry in concentrations that are below the "safe limit".
Asbestos is a very dangerous substance. It is naturally occurring and has been used in many construction site up until the 1970s. When airborne, asbestos can easily find its way into the lungs, causing inflammation and scarring that can lead to medical conditions such as asbestosis and mesothelioma. Unfortunately, symptoms can take decades to appear, making it difficult to diagnose and treat these diseases.
