A fire that occurred at an Alameda, California Naval Base spread debris that may have contained asbestos. Authorities do not believe that the debris is a health hazard, but have agreed to look into complaints. However, at least one large chunk of debris was found to contain asbestos by an independant lab's testing.
A 7 mph wind blew the debris westward from the base, but there have not been many complaints from the surrounding residents. However, some are now asking for more testing of the debris. The piece that was tested, measuring one inch by two inches, contained about 10% asbestos.
