The "pink monster," as the Colony Plaza Hotel has been dubbed, is slated for demolition after asbestos abatement. Demolition will occur 30 to 45 days after the abatement is completed, and is expected to be finished within 90 to 100 days. Central Environmental Services has taken the $700,000 asbestos abatement contract.
The hotel was abandoned 11 years ago and has since become a health and safety issue because of the asbestos. For this and other reasons, the building will go through abatement and then will be demolished. According to owner and founder of Central Environmental Services, the demolition of the building is "well overdue and a good thing for the community to get rid of that eyesore."
