Yakima, Washington's A Street Building has been demolished. The building contained a large amount of asbestos, but abatement would have cost too much so the building was demolished without taking safety precautions. The new plan for the space involves putting in a new park. However, the lack of asbestos abatement prior to demolition has many worried.
The asbestos that was not removed during destruction can very easily have become friable, or airborne. This makes it very easily inhaled and extremely dangerous. Because there was no abatement, the asbestos may now be at a dangerous level in the area.
