In Canada, the Cape Breton Housing Authority is preparing to remove asbestos from several homes. There is currently asbestos in the roofs of 64 homes in Whitney Pier Terraces and Ashby Terraces. A consultant made this finding and reported it in October of 2005, but the residents were not informed until several months later.
Renovations to the houses were halted in April of 2006, leaving several months in between in which residents could have been exposed to asbestos. Now, the housing authority is looking for a contractor to remove the insulation from the attics of the homes. They expect this work to start by mid April.
