Many residents of Stratford, Connecticut are signing a petition for the removal of asbestos contaminated soil from city limits. Currently, there are approximately five thousand truckloads of asbestos containing soil spread across 24 different areas. The removal would be very costly, but there are already over four thousand signatures on the petition.
The proposal on the petition is for all five thousand truckloads of soil to be transported to a decontamination facility in Buffalo, New York. Unfortunately, moving the soil to Buffalo could cost around $60 million. As with most cases, the removal of asbestos is very costly but could end up saving many people from having to suffer through mesothelioma.
