The criminal trial of WR Grace & Co begins today in Missoula, Montana. The trial will determine the extent of negligence of the company in relation to the vermiculite mine in Libby, Montana between 1963 and 1990. The trial is expected to last three months, bringing justice to the situation more than four decades after the mine opened.
Asbestos exposure from the mine has penetrated most of the city of Libby. Almost everyone has been affected whether they had ties to the mine or not. The miners were sent home for years covered in asbestos, spreading it to their families and friends and all over the town. Now the trial will determine whether or not the company acted criminally or not.
