A study of 42 mesothelioma patients who were diagnosed between August 2001 and July 2002 has recently released its results. The study found that patients who recieved treatment in earlier stages and those whose mesothelioma did not spread to the extrapleural lymph nodes had much better prognoses. These factors prolonged median prognosis by as much as 20 months.
This study will be useful in helping to determine prognosis in the future. Combined with other studies, and with future research, studies like this could help to find a cure for mesothelioma. For now, however, researchers are finding ways to prolong life and increase quality of life slowly but surely. Combined with legislation that helps prevent asbestos exposure, this could make mesothelioma a thing of the past.
For now, however, mesothelioma is a very real and very difficult condition. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, contact the mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-220-9341.
