Between the 1930s and the 1970s, the Navy and other branches of the military used massive amounts of asbestos containing products. Through the use of these products and simply being around them, sailors, shipyard workers and others were exposed to high quantities of asbestos. Because of this, many veterans are currently facing the threat of mesothelioma.
Unfortunately, that may not be the end of it. Current servicemen and servicewomen could be exposed to asbestos without any knowledge of it. While there was a ban on asbestos contaminated materials in 1973, it was not necessarily followed. Now, sailors may be on ships that still have asbestos in them. Also, there has been a great deal of asbestos shipped to Iraq where desert winds can carry it for miles and expose soldiers.
Prolonged asbestos exposure can lead to conditions such as asbestosis and mesothelioma. If you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos, contact the Veterans' mesothelioma attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-220-9341.
