On August 27 an asbestos suit was filed by Steven Dux against 13 defendant corporations in the Madison County Circuit Court in Illinois. The suit was filed on behalf of Steven’s father Andres Martinez, who died from mesothelioma. The suit claims that the illness was caused by exposure to asbestos at Martinez’s place of work. He worked from 1952 to 1990 as a laborer and heavy equipment operator at various locations. During this period he was exposed to, inhaled and ingested asbestos fibers from products made or sold by the defendant corporations. This caused him to contract mesothelioma, which was diagnosed on March 2007.
Martinez died on November 6, 2007.The suits seeks in excess of $50,000 for medical and funeral expenses and compensatory damages in excess of $50,000 in addition to punitive damages.
