Asbestos May Remain in Milwaukee Area Common Council Chamber

It seems that as more time goes by, more locations containing asbestos are uncovered.  Some of those locations are surprising to say the least, and according to a blog that’s updated regularly on the Web site of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, asbestos may still be present in a local government council chamber, even though a contractor was recently hired to remove it.

“An asbestos inspector from the state Department of Natural Resources said this morning that he suspects an Indiana contractor failed to completely remove all of the potentially cancer-causing material from the Common Council chambers.

Mark Davis conducted a surprise inspection Thursday of the asbestos removal work done in the chambers and found what he suspects is some of the old ceiling material still clinging to a ledge above the paneling along the back wall.

The city earlier this month had the old ceiling material taken down because asbestos was sealed into it.”
