The Brigham Staging System
The Brigham staging system is one of three major staging systems that exist to evaluate the severity of mesothelioma. It is the newest of the systems and it focuses on analyzing the operability of mesothelioma tumors. Several tests may be performed to determine which of the four stages the cancer is in, including x-rays, CAT scans, MRIs, and endoscopic ultrasounds. If it is determined that a tumor is inoperable, radiation or chemotherapy, gene therapy, or immunotherapy may be utilized to try to eliminate the cancer.
Mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases are largely preventable. People have known about the dangers of asbestos for decades, yet people continue to be exposed to the harmful substance. Sadly, millions of people have been affected due to someone’s failure to notify them of the dangers or presence of asbestos. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with an asbestos-related illness, someone may be legally responsible. The Stages of the Brigham System
The Brigham staging system consists of four stages, which are as follows:
- Stage 1: Lymph nodes remain unaffected and the tumor can still possibly be removed surgically
- Stage 2: The tumor could still possibly be removed surgically, but lymph nodes are affected, so further treatment would be needed
- Stage 3: The lymph nodes may or may not be penetrated by cancer, but the abdominal cavity, heart, diaphragm, or chest wall have been; the tumor can no longer be removed with surgery
- Stage 4: The tumor has fully metastasized and spread far beyond the lungs
If you or someone you love is suffering from mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Contact a dedicated asbestos attorney from Williams Kherkher at 800-781-3955 today to discuss your situation in further detail.
